Floss Daily

To properly floss, break off about 18 inches of floss and wind most of it around the middle fingers of each hand, leaving just a few inches in between. Slide the floss between each tooth and under the gum line, forming a C shape to ensure that both sides of the tooth are cleaned. Once finished, unwind a fresh section of floss and repeat the process.

While brushing and flossing are essential, it is also very important to eat a healthy diet that is low in sugary or acidic foods. This can help to prevent tooth decay and other oral health issues, which are much less painful and worrisome than treating more severe conditions like periodontal disease.

Your dentist can show you proper brushing and flossing technique and give your entire family oral health tips to prevent gum disease, tooth decay, and other problems. Besides catching cavities and other issues, dentists will check for signs of serious health conditions like mouth and neck cancers. They will also look for red or white patches in the mouth and other abnormalities that may be difficult to see at home. In many cases, these issues can be treated easier and more cost-effectively when they are detected early on.
